Island Blue Artist Statement

 

“Island Blue” is a visual meditation on the peace and clarity that comes from the ocean, offering a sanctuary for reflection and joy. The abstract composition mirrors the freedom and carefree moments spent by the coast during my youth. Each stroke, from the vivid blues to the soft greens, captures the brightness and simplicity of those times, etched with fond memories. As an adult, I long for this serenity, but the complexities of life make it elusive.

This painting’s colour scheme reflects more than just nostalgia—it is a reminder of the bright possibilities that lie ahead. The calming tones foster deeper introspection, guiding me toward understanding what I truly desire. The silver lining, embedded in the abstract layers, symbolises the clarity that emerges through self-discovery and the ocean’s cleansing embrace.

“Island Blue” is a beacon of hope—a visual reminder to reconnect with that peace, as I navigate the uncertainties of adulthood.

 

Meadows Artist Statement

 

"Meadows” evokes a rich, introspective narrative tied to personal experiences with nature and imagination. This piece is centered on themes of depth, wonder, and a connection to the environment, drawing inspiration from childhood moments of awe in natural landscapes.

These surroundings, unmarred by human intervention, fostered a sense of serenity, discovery, and reflection on the expansive, multidimensional relationship between humanity and nature.

It also symbolises the mental escape that books provided during childhood, with settings like meadows becoming synonymous with both peace and mystery. The painting thus conveys both a grounding in the natural world and a transcendence through imagination, capturing how those formative experiences continue to inspire creative expression and a desire for authenticity.

 

Etchings Series Artist Statement

 

In this series, I explore the intersection of personal growth, self-discovery, and creative expression through vibrant digital media. Inspired by the landscapes of my Caribbean upbringing, each piece reflects the grounding power of nature while navigating the chaos and ambiguity of adulthood. Through intricate linework, bold textures, and dynamic colour schemes, I capture the tension between past comforts and the uncertainty of the present.

This work serves as a visual manifestation of my evolving beliefs—faith, resilience, and the beauty found in life’s complexities. The series Etchings symbolises the delicate balance between fading memories and the sharpness of the present moment, using colour and composition to convey both the disorientation of change and the promise of hope. Ultimately, this series embodies the journey of finding meaning and purpose amid life’s unknowns, while rooted in a deep spiritual faith that guides my path.
